Product Description

The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2% - a high-strength lactic acid superficial peeling formulation.

Lactic Acid is an alpha hydroxyl acid that exfoliates the skin. This 10% formulation offers mild exfoliation and is supported with a purified Tasmanian pepperberry known to reduce signs of inflammation and sensitivity that is often associated with exfoliation.

This formula contains a studied Tasmanian Pepperberry derivative to help reduce irritation associated with acid use. This derivative is of plant origin and varies in colour seasonally and this colour variation may be apparent in the formula from time to time.

This pH of this formula is approximately 3.8. Lactic Acid has a pKa of 3.8 and pKa is the most important aspect to consider in formulating with acids. pKa implies acid availability. When pKa is close to pH, there is an ideal balance between salt and acidity, maximising effectiveness of the acid and reducing irritation. Higher pH numbers in such a case would increase salt which counter-intuitively would make the formula even more irritating than if the formula was more acidic.

Alcohol-free, nut-free, vegan.

Note: While Lactic Acid can result in quick visible benefits, we generally suggest indirect forms of skin exfoliation in favour of direct forms such as this formula due to potential inflammation and sensitivity associated with acids.

Directions

Apply once per day, ideally in the PM. Can be diluted with other treatments to reduce strength until skin develops tolerance.

Lactic Acid should not be used on sensitive, peeling or compromised skin. Avoid contact with eyes. If irritation persists, discontinue use and consult a physician. Sunburn Alert: this product contains an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that may increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. Use a sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure while using this product and for a week afterwards.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Miracle Potion! I have tried so many products for the KP on my arms, with many of them delivering less than satisfactory results. This is the first product I tried that actually delivered noticeable results! My arms are so soft and smooth! I use an exfoliant in the shower and it just elevates this product. With Other products I noticed that I would have to be super diligent in application, if I forget to apply this one day, the KP doesn’t come roaring back. I’m SUPER happy with the product and with the results I’ve seen. I also can’t complain about the price point.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from We will see… I definitely still have reservations for this product. I had to dial it back on the usage because it was destroying my moisture barrier from user error of using too much too fast. So I dialed back to once or twice a week to start out and we will ramp up as my skin gets used to it. I do think it is working, I have some acne marks I am trying to get rid of or just shrink some. We shall see but good so far after doing what I’m supposed to do 😂

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Leave on or wash off ? I bought this Lactic acid but am a bit confused. It says: ‘Use once a day ideally in PM’ (but doesnt say for how long). I assumed the above meant leave on overnight but then it also says ‘contact of the product must be for limited duration or frequency’ which suggests a quick duration i.e. 15 minutes and wash off as id say overnight was not limited duration ? Reviews say leave on. Google says dont leave lactic acid on skin for longer than 15 minutes. My brain is boggled - help ..

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Still confused I bought this almost a year ago and I still find myself going to the internet to try and understand it. PLEASE put more instructions on your packaging. Also, how does everyone avoid ripping off their fingerprints when applying?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Needs a bigger size Literally the best lactic serum I have used in my 6 years of skincare. We need a 120ml because the 30ml only lasts about a week or 2 of usage.

Can I use this in combination with the Glycolic acid? I have blemishes from past acne that are dark on my face. Everytime I get a new one is very likely to leave a “stai

Asked by: Alice
Lactic and glycolic acids are both used as skin exfoliants. Lactic acid can be less irritating than glycolic and I wouldn't use both at the same time. For reduced pigmentation on the skin after blemishes I'd use azeliac acid added to your skin routine.

Please can you tell me does this help with wrinkles? I am looking into it for my mother has has wrinkles due to sun exposure in younger days without spf!

Asked by: Lianne
It’s not specifically designed for wrinkles, it mainly exfoliates your face. Retinol might be better for your mum

Hi, can I use this with the Holland and barret vitamin e oil. It contains Sunflower Oil, Vitamin E (as d-Alpha Tocopheryl) (Soya), Lemon Oil.

Asked by: Zakia
Hi there, Thanks for reaching out to us. Lactic acid is an exfoliating, active ingredient so you can use this with your oil as it doesn't contain any exfoliating ingredients. I hope this helps! Many thanks, Laura - Customer Care Advisor

After I’ve applied this do I then apply my usual serum and night cream? Thank you

Asked by: Mrs
Hey there, If you have not used Lactic Acid before, we would recommend using the The Ordinary Lactic Acid 5% + HA 2% to start with while you skin adjusts to this acid. You would apply this exfoliating acid once per day, ideally in the PM as the first serum in your routine after cleansing and toning followed by a serum (if you wish) and your moisturiser. It can be diluted with other treatments to reduce strength until skin develops tolerance. As this product is exfoliating, we would highly recommend using and SPF in the day when using Lactic Acid and to avoid other acids/ retinols when using this product. Hope this helps! Many thanks Katie, Beauty Expert.

Can i use this together with Niacinamide?

Asked by: Junna Nelia
Hey there, This can be used with the The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%. You would use The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% in the morning after cleansing and The Ordinary Lactic Acid 5% + HA 2% in the evening after cleansing (start with the lowest formula if you have not used Lactic Acid before so your skin can adjust to the foreign substance). Hope this helps! Many thanks Katie, Beauty Expert.

Can I use it with vitamin c solution and azeluic acid ?

Asked by: Anne
Hi, We would not advise using The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2% alongside products containing Vitamin C as both ingredients have exfoliating properties, this means that using them together may over process the skin and cause some irritation. Hope this helps! Thanks Katie, Beauty Expert.
